Why does music matter?
Music matters to me because it really is a universal language. It is so expressive and can really communicate any emotion. It can also bridge so many gaps and barriers. There have been instances when I have sat down to play chamber music with somebody and we didn't speak each other's language; however, we were able to communicate purely through our emotions and the sounds coming out of our instruments. Music is very powerful in that way.
What is it about the string quartet that you find particularly rewarding?
For starters, the repertoire. There is something so intimate about sitting down with three friends and communicating with each other without even opening our mouths. Also, the democratic aspect of all
four people contributing equally to the final product forces us all to be very creative.
Any advice for younger musicians?
If you love what you're doing, keep doing it! In the end, it's not just about the notes. It's about communicating this wonderful art to others.
What inspires you?
I'm inspired by people in general, be it within the music world or outside of it. Also, working with younger musicians is very inspirational to me.
What are three words you would use to describe yourself?
laid-back, stubborn, cool(in a nerdy way)
